Spotlight on: Let’s Change the World

by The Gardener on Sunday, June 3, 2007

With a title like that, how could we help but be intrigued by “The Woman Behind the Thoughts” and her little corner of the blogosphere?

Desiree began her blog in December 2006, with the stated purpose of “inspir[ing] ideas within each other that can lead to each of us helping to change the world and make this a better world.” She declares that she has no desire to “tell others how to live,” but, rather, seeks to “spread good will, hope and inspiration to whatever small part of the world I can manage to captivate as my audience.”
Desiree challenges her readers to think about their contributions to the world. For instance, in Reverberations, one of her earliest entries, she asks readers to contemplate the ways in which our actions reverberate and have far-reaching consequences that we aren’t always even aware of. Reminding us that we are all imperfect beings who make mistakes, she reaffirms that we all should strive to take stock of our self-worth and envision what our lives would be like if we loved ourselves more. “Part of feeling good about yourself is in fact being good. . . It does mean doing your best and trying really hard to be a person you would be proud to have for a friend.” Acknowledging that “[t]he negative is the path of least resistance,” Desiree encourages her readers not only to improve themselves, but also practice random acts of kindness for others.

There are many more posts to savor, offered in a Table of Contents format if you wish to read all of Desiree’s writing from her blog’s inception to current entries. Pay Desiree a visit and let her know that you are there via the Garden! We think you’ll find your life enriched by reading her entries and interacting with her!

Creating a blog is mainly related to share ideas and communicate with other people. Unless you have millions of readers, it’s unlikely you can change the world only with the help of your blog. However, it’s highly gratifying to receive comments from loyal readers who always are pleased to read your posts.

Thanks for this. With so many sites out there, I’ve had to seriously cut back on my bookmarking habits and RSS subscriptions. But you introduced me to a great site. Cheers.

This is a very good idea to change this world, but how many of us can make the difference. Thinking to change the world is easy but changing is difficult. Anyway my support is with you. Thanks.

My support is with you in the hope that you will once again find the strength to continue with what you are trying to achieve. This seems to be a popular blog and there are many people listening to what you have to say.

Good luck.

I believe that a constructive idea, no matter how small it might be, has a far reaching effect, even if we are not always aware of that. We cannot change the world only by having extraordinary ideas, all good ideas have to be counted as well.

Th last paragraph, i agree with. If you do something good for someone else, it makes you feel good. Its not just a good feeling when you go out and buy a new pair of shoes, but when you do something that you know someone else will appreciate, and thankful for. It somehow makes you feel fulfilled. I remember when i was little, i didn’t see my dad alot, as he used to work in civil engineering, but i used to spend time with my grandma and my mum. I remember every Saturday when we went shopping, i always used to stand at the end and help old people pack thier shopping. Never did this for money, but just because i enjoyed helping others. I think that since then as people have grown up in todays society have become more selfish, less willing to help, theres no trust left, and therefore no-one really feels good about themselves anymore. Someone drops thier shopping in the middle of the road, most people would walk past completely ignoring the fact and worrying about themselves.

Hey this site looks great and it’s definitely true that we all have action and consequence on this world.

I am trying to be aware of myself and make sure that my actions are for everyone’s good rather than being selfish… Thanks.

Oh and Good Luck to you, the new owner….

This is a very inspiring article. Recently I’ve tried to improve my happiness by reading “Power of Positive Thinking” and other article like this. I’m glad you are trying to help the world one person at a time. You may not ever reach out to the whole world but if you help one person then it can be a massive snowball effect. Great post! -M
