The thing that caught our attention about Points of Light was that the photographs are accompanied by intelligent, meaningful narration. Photo blogs are plentiful so you can spend endless hours perusing first-rate photography on the ‘Net. But we have not found another blog that provides such an intriguing, thought-provoking combination of photographic excellence coupled with well-written prose.
James Jordan is a resident of Elgin, Illinois who has been blogging since April 2005. Early on, he stated: “I’d like my legacy to go beyond ‘he sure took care of his family.’ I’d like to leave some footprints of lasting beauty on my journey.” He is succeeding spectacularly. Frequently, as in this example, he blends his stunning photographic eye with a message from Scripture, illustrating the point seamlessly. Other times, he shares a memory from childhood. Frequently, he documents the history of the place or items depicted in the photo, allowing the visitor to travel to other places — most never before heard of — without leaving the comfort of his/her own home.
Points of Light is guaranteed to make you pause for a moment, consider the beauty of Jordan’s work, and think about life, your work, your surroundings a little bit differently than you did before your visit. And for that reason, we are delighted to feature it here in the Garden.
