Spotlight on: Matters of the Heart

Sometimes you happen upon a blog that you just can’t tear yourself away from and, before you know it, you’re deep into the archives absorbing every word.

So it was when we visited Matters of the Heart. The author, Sandy T., writes from her heart about her struggles with depression and anxiety, relationship with an addict which ended not too long ago, and search for inner peace.1

She talks about the depth of love she feels for her young son and other special folks in her life, and candidly shares details about her relationships with them. She admits that her choices do not always bring approval from her family members but is blessed by being surrounded by supportive, loving family and friends, and expresses her gratitude regularly.

Recently, she even got a tattoo in memory of her late grandmother. On February 1, 2007, she wrote:

“Some people put up walls not to keep others out but to see who cares enough to tear them down.”

The most important people in my life have chipped away lots of bricks in the past year. I feel like I owe them so much because they care enough to want to help me unlock myself. My walls are slowly but surely crumbling each and every day. Thanks to all who care about me! I love each and every one of you very much!

Sandy just began participating in Poetry Thursday and we hope that she continues to share her poems with her readers:

Unspoken

Unspoken words of the mind
A love once known left behind
Bouncing off the walls of a soul
Silent expressions go untold
Tears circulate like a river through confined veins
Avoiding the eyes wide shut by heavy laden chains
The core of the body carries a burden
Of matters of the heart unspoken

  1. ”And now that we are done and over with, it’s time for me to do some soul searching. I have to find myself, get right with myself and take the time to learn who I am and what I’m all about. I need to start living my life and not someone else’s.”

I loved what she said about seeing which people care enough to take her walls down….

That was very moving to me…

You’re right, she is really candid about what is going on in her life, but I enjoyed it. It’s nice to hear real stories of people going through the same things.
